Quid pro quo. Workshop on Experimental Methodologies for Recording Intimacies

Quid pro quo. Workshop on Experimental Methodologies for Recording Intimacies

To what extent is it legitimate in the name of art, writing, and poetry to make intimate stories public? What conflicts arise when exposing both one’s own and others’ intimacy? What drives the need to narrate intimacy? How do we narrate ourselves in fragmentation, in imperfection, in secrecy, in the process? Is there a methodology for exploring the intimate that we can link to collaborative cinema?

In this workshop, we would like to question the narratives of representing the intimate, the tensions between horizontality and authorship, and create a collective ethical framework to help us collaboratively work on narrating intimacy.

Intimacy is a territory that often corresponds to a feeling of shame, a nakedness that makes us vulnerable. Revealing intimacy can be an act of love but also a violent act. Narrating intimacy is walking on the edge of the abyss. Uncovering and sharing an anecdote, an experience, a diary, photographs, or letters ignite the need to rethink how we share stories and authorship, to achieve a permeable and careful state of creation where the first person resonates as a possible common voice without the violence of non-belonging.

We will invite participants to a dynamic in which we will share images or recordings from our own mobile devices to reflect on these issues and collectively imagine a methodology for recording intimacies.
