Cuerpo-residual is a material research project unfolding at the intersections of art and science, exploring the creation of corporeal materialities. Driven by a desire to experiment with and reflect on the processes—and taboos—of transforming the matter that houses our bodies, the project investigates the symbolic and affective potential of an archive of residual human matter.
In dialogue with Esto también pasará (This Too Shall Pass), the project takes shape through the collective creation of bio/materialities, starting from the conception of the body as a territory from which to collect the matter that makes us up, with the aim of fostering bodily sovereignty (and matter-body sovereignty). Through experimental methodologies for engaging with this matter, we will focus on the collective dimension of residue and finitude, constructing imaginaries around the legacy of matter-body-residue and exploring its physical, chemical, symbolic and affective possibilities.
We will work with what our own bodies offer us, using corporeality as a tool for ontological reflection and as a point of departure for questioning our ways of relating to the body. We will consider the implications of handling human matter—matter that carries memory and is intimately and culturally charged—and the tensions involved in matter being regarded as valuable, dirty, one’s own, someone else’s, or residual.

Lara Campos
Material researcher, transdisciplinary artist and educator, driven by curiosity, alchemical processes and the exploration of territory. Resident at Hangar’s Wetlab, member of the Manglar collective and collaborator with Fab Lab Barcelona on educational projects. Her practice unfolds across diverse lines of inquiry including new materials, alchemies and crafts, waste flows, circular ecosystems, regenerative ontologies, cultivated materials, non-human fictionaries and multispecies ideologies.
She investigates bodies, techniques and concepts that challenge and ferment her situated, transdisciplinary approach at the margins of art and science. Her work focuses on creating materials through processes of collection, exploring materiality as a living and active entity. She reflects on scales of observation and probes the inter-action between body and matter. She researches and fosters the exchange of knowledge, generating situated and critical methodological tools to expand our understanding of matter, waste, ecology and community, while ritualising the making of matter as a poetic and political practice.
