MORIR GUAY is a research line centered around the prevailing discourses and protocols regarding death and their counter-narratives. It is articulated around a series of methodological experiments based on the hypothesis that if we create a caring space to break the taboo surrounding death, we can initiate a paradigm shift to enhance sovereignty and ecology in the process of dying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2023, we embarked on a new phase, thanks to the support of the Fundaci\u00f3n Daniel y Nina Carasso<\/a>, which selected our project “Collective Learning to Redesign Death” as part of the “Composing Knowledge for Imagining and Building Sustainable Futures<\/a>” initiative. Over a period of two years, we will develop an expanded laboratory for creation and experimentation with the goal of delving into the environmental impact of the funeral industry to promote an alternative vision through artistic experimentation and respect for our environment. With this perspective, we are launching a pedagogical program, the process of creating a theatrical piece, prototyping eco-funerals, and an audiovisual archive<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To accomplish this, we will have the collaboration of experts in various fields: Jordi Miralles<\/a>, a biologist and advocate for ecological death; Ana Garc\u00eda<\/a>, an expert in neuroarchitecture; Cristina Noguer<\/a>, a researcher in ecodesign and materials; la Poderosa<\/a>, experts in live arts; and Sarafina Landis<\/a>, an expert in eco-funerals and end-of-life support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Morir Guay research project was initiated in 2020 thanks to a grant from La Escocesa<\/a>, resulting in the publication of the book Morir guay. Voces y relatos para no tener miedo<\/a><\/em>. In 2021, we continued with the support of a grant from Barcelona Producci\u00f3<\/a> during which we conducted a series of video interviews that led to the publication of Morir guay. Rituales de transici\u00f3n<\/a><\/em>. In the same year, Chico Tr\u00f3pico invited us to conceive an event as part of the Cementerio<\/a> and later, the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contempor\u00e0nia de Barcelona) invited us to design a workshop on the topic of death within the context of the “Ciencia Fricci\u00f3n” exhibition. During this event, we initiated the first Tanatolab<\/a>, a transdisciplinary and experiential space in which we opened our research to the public. In 2022, we received a research grant from the BKFMACBA and carried out El \u00faltimo aliento<\/em><\/a>, an exploration of the MACBA’s permanent collection to propose a site-specific educational device<\/p>\n\n\n\n
